15 March BFL News

Apparently Butterflylabs has now attained the vaunted status of being large enough to attract a DDoS. This morning, starting about 1AM CST, the BFL sites started getting over 1 Gbs of traffic, effectively knocking everything offline. The sites were disabled until the traffic abated and then re-enabled, and the DDoS started up again, so someone is keeping an eye on things. I’m not sure what they are hoping to accomplish with the DDoS, but it is what it is.

All sites have been moved behind Cloudflare – there should be no problems for the vast majority of users, but if you have problems, please feel free to let us know, but please be as descriptive as possible, since vague problem reports are impossible to track down the source of the problem.

Some users may get a captcha that pops up when you try to access the site. This is expected and should only affect a small number of users (especially if you’re behind a proxy at work and that sort of thing). Once you fill out the captcha, you should be good for awhile before you’ll have to do it again. However, most users will not even notice a difference at this point, other than the site is actually up instead of inaccessible.
